Legacy of false comments and accusations that impact our trust for genuine peace.

Philippine politics remains steeped in controversy and conflict, as the shadows of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership continue to loom large over the nation. Known for his aggressive stance on law enforcement and governance, Duterte’s approach has often been characterized by intimidation and violence, strategies aimed at instilling fear rather than fostering trust.

This approach did not discriminate, affecting guilty and innocent alike, and was marred by chaos and poor execution. Even out of office, Duterte’s legacy of verbal onslaughts persists, creating conflicts with current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Filipinos thus cry out “Kami Naman!”, exasperated by the government’s focus on Duterte’s controversial tactics and disputes. We long for a shift in focus—away from endless political wrangling, and more towards tackling the pressing issues that directly affect the daily lives of the people.

Why, many ask, does so much energy continue to be expended on these debacles? With Duterte’s own children holding positions of power—Sara as the Vice President, Sebastian as the Mayor of Davao City, and Paolo as Davao City’s 1st District Representative—there is an added layer of complexity and continuity to his influence. This familial involvement in governance raises questions about the potential for a shift in focus towards more constructive issues.

One such issue demanding clarity and open discussion is Duterte’s alleged “gentleman’s agreement” with China, which potentially affects the sovereignty of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea. Transparency in such agreements is crucial, not only for the sake of national security, but also for the integrity of how the country’s foreign relations are managed. The Filipino people deserve clear, honest communication about matters that impact the nation’s future.

Filipinos are tired of quarrels and stagnation. The cry for change is loud and clear: leaders must embrace a role that truly aims to improve the country. It brings to light the critical need for leaders to redirect their energy towards initiatives that build rather than divide, and to shape an environment where Filipinos can thrive.

This movement is not just a critique but also a hopeful push towards a new era of governance in the Philippines—one where leadership is transparent, policies are constructive, and the voices of the citizens are not only heard but are also a driving force behind the decisions that shape their lives. For the sake of the nation and future generations, it’s time for a positive change—kaya “Kami Naman”.
